Venice
2024

Since I am posting photographs of our two back-to-back cruises - 18 days (seven on the first, 11 on the second) during which I gave 10 presentations (five talks on each segment), I want to make sure I cover all the ports.

So, I am posting all the photos (well, actually just one) we took of the first and intermediate port - Venice.

Calling Venice a port as part of the cruise is an overstatement - you actually never go into Venice except to the cruise ship terminal which is barely in the city. After spending millions of euros on a cruise terminal, the city no longer allows cruise ships into the port in an effort to stop the degradation of the buildings.

The solution: bus all the passengers for about 45 minutes to the commercial port in Fusina, on the mainland. where the cruise ships now dock. I have included the one photo we took of Venice as we sailed by on our way out of Fusina.

I am not blaming the cruise line - they are doing the best they can, but stop calling Venice a port of call....
