Argostoli
2024

Argostoli is the capital of the island of Ionian island of Kefalonia. Since most of the town was destroyed in either World War II or the major earthquake of 1953, it lacks the usual centuries-old remnants of ancient Greece. It’s natural beauty is turning it into a tourist and cruise ship destination, which, although economically beneficial, is not welcomed by all the residents. They didn’t seem happy to see us….

Two unpleasant fishers - they "forbade" me to take their pictures. Fortunately, I was stationed in Greece
for two years and know the appropriate insulting responses in Greek. Oh, note that I took their pictures.

Another unpleasant fisherwoman - more attitude. I responded to her in Greek as well....

Holy Church of St Spirydon

Kefalonia's church of Agios (Saint) Spiridon lies in the heart of Argostoli - it is documented that the church had operated at least since the middle of the 18th century. Its most impressive part is certainly its gilded, wood-carved iconostasis.
